A Snowy Day in January

What to do on a snowy day. I think it has stopped snowing, but the ground and the trees, roofs have snow clinging to them.
I have a picture I want to paint - a snowcovered world with a man and his dog plodding along a path to his house in the evening as the sun is going down. I have been looking at it for several days, but need a push to get started. Perhaps our snowy day will do that. What color is a shadow in the snow? I think most painters use blue or purple. Look out at it and see what color you see.

I have also been looking at recipes. Dr. Weil's healthful recipes. I printed off the one of Lintel Soup. No! it is spelled lentil. Usually you put beans and grains together to make complete protein, so I will add brown rice to the recipe. I don't cook much, but I still like to look at recipes.

I have been reading a book by Ron Phillips, " Our invisible Allies" The definitive guide on Angels and how they work behind the scenes.

I really believe we have angels watching over us. In one of Frank Perriti's novels, there is a scene where angels are standing around watching Christians being harrassed by demons, and someone asked the angels why they weren't helping them. The angels answered that the Christians hadn't prayed for help.

Remember this scripture that probably most of you have memorized. Phil. 4:4-8. Be anxious for nothing, but by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
On the back of the book it reads: "Beyond our normal range of understanding. there lies another dimension, more real and lasting than anything we can imagine. Angels are a key connection to that realm for us.

Ron Phillips in this book brings you a definitive guide to angels, describing how they operate, and how you can engage their help in your own life. ............................................ With the ability to come and go between the elernal dimension and our world, angels comfort us, speak to us, teach us and help us.

God in Us, the hope of glory. Collosians 1:27

This morning I listened to several sermons on television, as I didn't get to church. One idea that gave me something to think about was given by Jesse Duplantis. The title was 'name your seed,' with a scripture quoting as I say it from memory was, "Be not decieved, God is not mocked, as you sow so shall you reap." The idea of his sermon was that you should name your seed (giving). If you give to pay the utilities of the church, you will have plenty to pay your monthly bills. If you give money to help some poor people, you will receive money. You get the idea. I think you all know the scripture, "Give and it will be given to you."

After that, I listened to a man on CTN. He talked about the book of 1 John. The scripture that stuck in my mind was from chapter 4 verses 13-16. Find it here - I John 4: 13-16 I would copy and paste it in but the blog doesn't seem to want to paste. I know there is a way.

The scripture that jumped out at me. - This is how we know that we live in him and he in us, he has given us of his Spirit. And again, God is love. Whosoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

The thought that God (the father, Jesus, Holy Spirit) actually dwells in me (in us) blows my mind. If we can really walk in this thought, our lives would be more powerful, more creative, more loving - more full of the fruits of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22 - 23.

Open our eyes, Lord, that we can see and know.

These are comforting words for us who are Christians- who have been born of God, and have the Holy Spirit. Know you not that your bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit.

1 John 5:13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

What is God's will? One writer said about the Lord's Prayer, Jesus said, "Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven." that God's will in Heaven is love, peace, health, goodness, and did I say LOVE.

18 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him. We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true—even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

21Dear children, keep yourselves from idols. Idols are a completly different subject, that each one of us must figure out for ourselves. An idol is probably anything that is more important to us than God.

I woke up this morning to the absence of electricity. Not having electricity is a bummer. No television, no microwaves, no cd playing, no computer. I learned later that it was off all over Tonkawa.

A front went throught last night, and about 2 0r 2:30, I woke to thunder, lightening and the sound of hail. The hail wasn't as large as some in Oklahoma had experienced a few days ago. It was large enough to hear it landing on the roof. I don't know when the electricity went off, It came back on around 9:00 o'clock. It is now 11:04 and it is still raining.

Going without one of the things we are used to, which make our lives easier, makes us appreciate what we have. When I read a novel of early pioneers, getting up in the cold, having to build a fire, I am truly glad that I am living today.
WE have a lot to be thankful for.

I turned on the TV to watch Jeopardy, and the weather people were on, tracking storms. There was one crossing I35 north of Tonkawa, which put down a tornado or two. I don't know if they did much harm. I think one messed up a barn.

Then, there was a storm going across I35 south of Tonkawa. The wind got pretty strong and it rained here. The sun is shining now and the wind isn't so strong. I think there was a lot of praying (me included). Now they are talking of the storms around Oklahoma City, so I still have much to pray about. I have 5 grandchildren in different parts of OKC, one in Moore, and two families in Edmond. God is all-powerful. He can keep those twisters up in the clouds.

I watched a movie on TCM this afternoon - "Edison, the man." It was good. Old, like black and white. I wished I had put it on the DVR box. When taped, I can turn it off when I need to, and watch it later.

My mother's day was good. I was visited by four of my children, and called by the other in Denver. I say children; they vary in age from 50 to 61, but they are still my children, even if they are grandparents themselves. I have 12 great grandchildren, and they are the cutest you ever did see.

Jeopardy was never aired so I didn't find out if that girl won again - the one who had a perfect ACT score which I think was 36.

The weather people sound excited, so guess I will glue myself to the TV again, and pray some more.

Some thoughts from chapter 1 of the book,"Supernatural Power of a Transformed Mind," by Bill Johnson. There is so much in this chapter that I hardly know where to begin.

From the introduction of the book: "This book is an attempt to address a very abused subject - the mind of the believer." The challenge before us is to give ourselves completely to the full purpose of God for the mind of man through the model that Jesus gave us, thereby giving us access to His supernatural life style."

Now to Chapter 1 ----- "It had been an awesome Sunday night in the presence of God. One man had been healed of tumors. He'd come all the way from a neighboring state because doctors had given him only two weeks to live. How did it happen? The Kingdom of God had come crashing into his infirmity and overwhelmed it. It was a great victory over the enemy.
Another woman was healed of what was believed to be lung cancer.

I have come to see that the normal Christian life means miracles, spiritual intervention, and revelation. It means peace, joy, love, a sense of well-being and revelation. The Holy Spirit, the very Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us, making it impossible for us to be content with what we can only see, hear, touch, taste, and smell.
The normal Christian life begins with the realization that we were put here to do the will of God on earth as it is in heaven - and what a joy it is to participate in that. .......

The will of God issimply this: "On earth as it is in Heaven." When we pray "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done," we're praying for the King's dominion and will to be realized right here, right now. That is a life-transforming, paradigm-shattering way to "do" normal Christianity. What is free to operate in heaven - joy, peace, wisdom, health, wholeness, and all the other good promises we read about in the Bible - should be free to operate here on this planet, in your home, your church, your business and your school.

I heartily recommend this book: Chapter 1 is titled Change your mind. Chapter 2 - Becoming the Dwelling Place of God. Chapter 3 - Revelation and Understanding.

I have watched the DVD, "North and South", again. It is a BBC production. A family moves from the South to the North to an industrial city. Here they get involved in management and workers problems. I heartily recommend this movie.

This is Amazon's description of the movie:
North & South is a splendid, four-hour adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's 19th century novel about an unlikely and somewhat star-crossed, love between a middle-class young woman from England's cultivated south and an intemperate, if misunderstood industrialists in a hardscrabble northern city.
Margaret Hale, daughter of a former vicar who relocates his family from a pastoral village outside London to unforgivinging, largely illiterate Milton, a factory town where John Thorton and his mother, survivors of poverty, rule their cotton mill with an iron hand. Thorton befriends Margaret's father but incurs her wrath for his severity with his workers. What she doesn't notice is Thornton's sense of responsibility for his empleyees" welfare.

This may one day be considered a classic. "Wives and Daughters" and "Cranford" are based on Elizabeth Gaskell's novels, also.

In another vein, I have also been reading a book by a Christian writer, Bill Johnson, "The Supernatural Power of a Transformed Mind - Access to a Life of Miracles." I have just finished the second chapter. I have read the first chapter several times.

On the back of the book it reads, "You can live a supernatural life. In fact, moving in the spiritual realm should be as routine as prayer, worship and reading Scripture. It is part of what Jesus purchased for us on the cross!

The book teaches you how to remove the blinders of religious limitation to see your own life changed, the lost redeemed and communities transformed.

One writer wrote, "This book will rock your boat and set you ablaze with world changing faith."

In my next writings to this blog, I may quote some of the first chapter. Perhaps tomorrow, or later today. Please feel free to add your comments.

I tried to copy and paste Amazon's comments on the movie, but it didn't work here. I had to copy to printer, and type it in myself. There must be some way to paste in here, but I haven't discovered it. If you bloggers know the secret, fill me in. If I have typos, let me know.
